History of Our People

The Nordic nations consist of the Danes, Norwegians, Swedes, Germanian's respectively. They appear most prominently in the pages of history during Viking times approximately 789-1098.

In ancient times, our people survived as an extended family. Children stayed home thuse creating a larger clan. Others in the near area would band together and create theri own communities where they would work together to survive.

The Nordic people of Scandinavia have been living there for thousands of years. In the later part of the Bronze Age the German people occupied southern Sweden and the Danish pennisula.  (Please note the Germanic people were comprised of many tribes, but here I just use  the term Germans)It is not known for a fact if the German's brought their religion or if the Norse and Danes had similar beliefs at that time. But from what we have found there were definite similarities and some differences between the religions as well. This could be due to many reasons. With the exception of the German's in northern Germany the Nordic people went unnoticed by the other European peoples. This all changed with the first recorded raid on England in 789, which launched the Viking Age. What prompted this change in Nordic culture is still highly debated by many. Some believe that it may have been due to over-population, while other belive it was advances in ship-design which opened new opportunities. And yet another possiblity could be due to Carlemagne's bloody conquest and conversion of the pagan Saxons, which brought the Frankish Empire to the borders of the Kingdom of Denmark. One thing to keep in mind though is that many of the Vikings returned back to their homeland.

History of the Old Customs

It is difficult to determine how far back our religion actually goes as many of our people didn't write down their religioous beliefs. Instead it was passed down verbally and It was something they lived and felt daily. We do know that it pre dated the well known Viking period.

The Rune Stones

There have been many theories about who created the runes. And like many aspects of our religion there are many theories some having more supporters than others, but they all have one thing in common. None of the theories can be proved with absolute certainty. No runic inscriptions, as we know the runes, can be dated with certainty to before 200 AD.

The consensus seems to be that the Germanic Runes are the oldest. And the Norse and Sedes adopted their own versions at a later time.

Besides writing in runes you can also use them for magical purposes. I've been casting runes for over twenty years for personal issues as well as for others with great accuracy.

Persecution

Our religion was subjected to a violent campaign of repression over hundreds of years. Countless thousands of people were murdered, maimed, and exiled during this time. Our people did not give up their beliefs easily, but eventually to survive they had to give up the old customs at least on the surface. Eventually, the monolithic organization of the Christian church, bolstered by threats of economic isolation and assisted by an energetic propaganda campaign, triumphed over our people.

We add this section so that all of our people remember what happened to our ancestors, and to serve as a reminder that there are those that would still do the same thing to our people today.
